PRESS RELEASE

That’s according to the results of a survey held by Yooppe on Valentine’s Day.

Yooppe asked its users how their love life had changed during the pandemic. 27% of interviewees said they’d broken up during the pandemic. 35% said they’d preferred to be alone. For one user out of threeit was an opportunity to  meet new people online , especially thanks to the Yooppe app.

On Valentine’s Day Yooppe asked its users how their love life had panned out during the pandemic. 35% of those interviewed stated they had preferred to be alone. For 27% the restrictions, the lockdowns and the stress induced by this pandemic placed a heavy burden on their relationship with their partner that led them to break up. But another particularly significant figure highlighted by  our surveywas that for  one user out of three this pandemic was an opportunity to get to  meet new people online, especially through to a dating app.

Being forced to stay at home, the only form of “escapism” was online. 68% of those interviewed said they used an online dating app during the pandemic and the majority plan to do so again in the future. One interviewee out of two claimed that they used the dating app on several occasions every week, while 24% where on it many hours a day.

After virtual escapism, however, the users want to move into reality. In our survey, the main reasons for people to turn to using an online dating up are the desire to get to know someone who they then meet in person (32%) and the wish to embark on a new relationship (20%). Some people want to “try something new” (24%) and others are looking for physical attraction (19%).

Online dating seems to provide the right occasion to flirt with someone you don’t know (48%). But other aspects that intrigue users are the possibility of making a first step and breaking the ice (35%), without the kind of insecurity one might have in real life, and the opportunity of chatting with a few people at the same time (13%).
